Man accidentally shoots self at Texarkana College

Student, 22, being treated for knee wound

A Texarkana College student accidentally shot himself in the knee Friday, while sitting in a vehicle on campus.

The 22-year-old male student drove himself to a local hospital after the incident and is receiving medical treatment, TC President James Henry Russell said.

Texarkana College Police are investigating the incident.

"They are conducting a full investigation into what happened," Russell said.

The .38 revolver allegedly went off accidentally while the student was showing the weapon to another student during a mid-morning class break, Russell said.

The other student returned to class. TC officials were notified of the shooting by the hospital, Russell said.

"We are hopeful the injury is not major and the student can return to class soon. We are also glad no one else was injured," Russell said.
