Pleasant Grove Independent School District's Board of Trustees voted to hire a superintendent search firm during a special meeting Monday.

They approved hiring Arrow Educational Services, Inc., which is owned by Dr. Russell Marshall and Jim Dunlap.

It is the same firm the district used three years ago to hire Superintendent Jason Smith, who was named as lone finalist last week for president at Texarkana College. Smith has served as the district's superintendent for three years and during his tenure, voters passed a $19.9 million bond issue for a new elementary school, increased security on all campuses and technology infrastructure.

Following a state-mandated 21-day waiting period, TC's Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Nov. 5 to formally offer Smith the job. Smith will replace TC President James Henry Russell, who announced his resignation in September to take the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer of BWI Companies Inc., a wholesaler and distributor of diversified agricultural products.

Russell has been with the college for seven years. His last day is Dec. 31, and Smith will take the position Jan. 1.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 8.
