House Ablaze

The Texarkana, Ark., Fire Department is investigating a blaze that gutted a wood-frame home early Saturday afternoon in the 700 block of Ash Street. The house, believed to have been vacant for years, was engulfed when Arkansas-side firefighters, with Texarkana, Texas, firefighters on standby, arrived shortly before 1 p.m. They had the fire under control in about 30 minutes, Arkansas-side Incident Commander Ginger Lee said. At presstime, officials weren't sure how the fire started or where it originated. Lee said all of the home's utilities had been discontinued for years, ruling out the possibility of an electrical origin. No one was found in the home, and no one was injured.
