Heat index could reach 110 degrees today

An upper-level ridge will position itself over much of the Texarkana region the next couple of days and will result in heat index readings between 105 and 110 degrees.

Temperatures today will peak in the mid- to upper 90s and high humidity values will result in the high heat index, according to weather.gov.

These conditions should persist through Tuesday, with temperatures creeping near 100 each afternoon, according to projections.

Texarkana is positioned squarely in the middle of the affected area, with little chance of relief from the heat.

Extreme caution is advised for those working outdoors, and people are encouraged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks and try to work in the shade as much as possible. People are also encouraged to check on those most vulnerable to the heat and make sure proper air conditioning is available.
