Candidates file for March primaries

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas - Primary elections March 3, 2020, will determine who will hold three county offices, candidate filings show.

The deadline to file as a candidate in political parties' primaries was Monday, and most will run unopposed. The three contested races - for sheriff, Precinct 3 county road commissioner and tax assessor-collector - are all among Republicans, with no Democrats running for those offices.

At the county level, only the race for judge will see a Republican face a Democrat in November's general election. Incumbent Republican Bobby L. Howell and Democratic challenger Armani Valentino are running unopposed in their respective party primaries.

Both incumbent Republican John Ratcliffe and Democratic challenger Russell Foster filed to run for the U.S. House representing Texas' 4th Congressional District. Each is unopposed on his party's ballot.

As the elections near, the Gazette will publish profiles of candidates in contested races.

Lists of Republican and Democratic candidates follow, according to information provided by county party chairs. No Libertarian Party or Green Party candidates filed for offices in Bowie County or for the 4th District House seat.
