Discovery Place Interactive Museum is recognizing Thanksgiving with a series of crafts Saturdays.
Last Saturday, the occasion was the Pony Bead Indian Corn craft event, the first in the series. Crafters took materials, such as multicolored beads and pipe cleaners, and assembled decorative indian corn cobs. Children were assigned to perform the task, with adults helping out.
Some of the children weren't all that enthusiastic about corn, but gamely took to the challenge.
"I really wish it was a piece of apple," Eden Bell said. "But I think I can work with corn."
"I'm more of a Thanksgiving person, so it's nice to see an activity around that holiday," said Eden's father, Brian Bell. "Eden is a fan of Discovery Place, especially the musical wall."
The Bolding family also participated, assembling multicolored decorative corn cobs.
"My corn is golden," Mia Bolding said.
"My corn is really cool, gonna be cool," said Mia's brother, Mikah. "All see-through colors, because that is cool."
"This s a great thing to do and to get out of the house with the kids," their mother, Rebekah Bolding, said. "We do crafts here at the Discovery Place. We have a family membership. We come here regularly for the crafts and the kids like the Tesla show." Discovery Place tour guide Donna Bonjour said, "We have a series of Thanksgiving-themed events coming up. This is the first one. We are making sure Thanksgiving doesn't get forgotten in the holiday rush. Our next Thanksgiving-themed event will be next Saturday, 'Turkey Mosaic.'"
