One man arrested, another hospitalized after shooting

A Bowie County man has been arrested on an aggravated assault charge after allegedly shooting another man during an altercation.

Randy C. Pickens was booked into the Bi-State jail, according to information from the Bowie County Sheriff's Office. His bail was later set at $100,000.

Bowie County deputies responded Tuesday to the 200 block of Valley Run Drive in response to two men shooting at each other, according to the report.

Deputy Ed Steger arrived and found Kevin Burton lying in the doorway of his home suffering from a gunshot wound. Burton was taken to a local hospital for treatment where his wounds were found not to be life-threatening. Witnesses informed deputies that Burton and Pickens were involved in a verbal altercation.

During the argument, Pickens was allegedly attempting to bait Burton into a physical fight. Burton allegedly walked out to Pickens' truck and Pickens allegedly produced a long-handled object to strike Burton with.

Burton retreated to his home and allegedly returned with a handgun, yelling for Pickens to leave.

Pickens also allegedly produced a handgun and fired and struck Burton. Bowie County investigators were called to process this scene and take over the investigation.
