Linden-Kildare school employee, Queen City student test positive for COVID-19

A Linden-Kildare Independent School District staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a letter from the district. A student at Queen City Independent School District has also tested positive for COVID-19 and a district staff member has also been exposed to a person with a positive test, according to a letter from the district.

The LK-ISD staff member has not handled any meals that have been delivered or any assignments that went out this week, said Superintendent Keri Winters in a letter to parents and staff.

"They rode the bus two days early last week and had no symptoms while riding, and had no direct contact with students. Out of precaution, the staff member has self-quarantined for 7 days already prior to being diagnosed," Winters said. "As soon as we learned about the positive test, we have encouraged quarantining anyone else that had direct contact. We will continue to deliver meals and assignments as long as we have staff members willing to serve." Winters said in the letter.

"I appreciate the respect and the prayers that many of you are sending our way. Our mission is to serve the students of LKCISD and to do it in the right way. I will continue to only send you the facts and I hope that our community will stay together and support one another. We are taking every precaution necessary in preparing the meals, packing the meals, and delivering the meals," Winters said in the letter.

Winters said that if anyone who has been receiving meals and no longer wishes to can put a note on their mailbox to let the district know not to stop and drop off meals.

Queen City Superintendent Charlotte Williams said in a letter to parents and staff that she "is completely heartbroken" to report that a student has tested positive and a staff member has been exposed.

Williams said in the letter that the entire district has been deeply sanitized and Queen City schools have been closed since March 6, which was the last day of school since before spring break.

The student and the staff member's exposure was not through a school source and occurred during spring break, according to the letter. The end of the 14 day incubation period for anyone possibly exposed to the student while at school was March 20th. The incubation period for anyone possibly exposed to the staff member will be April 3, according to the letter.
