Some Bowie County cities move their elections to November

With the threat of coronavius likely to linger until the May 5 municipal elections in Bowie County, at least two cities have decided to move their elections to the Nov. 3 General Ballot.

A municipal spokeswoman for Hooks City Hall said Friday that the Hooks City Council reset that city's municipal election for Nov. 3 during its March 23 meeting. This election will be a mayoral contest between incumbent Al Turnage and challenger Greg Rowe.

As with Hooks, a spokeswoman for Wake Village said the City Council decided to move its election to Nov. 3, but she referred questions about all candidate name listings to Wake Village City Administrator Jim Roberts. Robert could not be reached at presstime.

Nash City Secretary Jennifer Studdard said Friday the City Council canceled the municipal election since none of the incumbents in open positions drew any opponents. The Maud council also canceled its election for the same reason.

As for DeKalb, DeKalb Mayor Lowell Walker said Friday that council members will likely decide whether to move the municipal election date during their April 13 meeting.

A Redwater municipal employee contacted Friday said she was the only person at City Hall and had no information as to whether that city's council intended to move its election to November. Other Redwater officials couldn't be reached for comment.
