Six inmates have tested positive at Telford Unit

NEW BOSTON, Texas - Six inmates at the Telford Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in New Boston have tested positively for COVID-19, according to the Texas prison system's website.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the site shows tests are pending for 16 inmates, one inmate has tested negatively and six have tested positively. The site shows 2,839 inmates at Telford are currently in "medical restriction" which the site states is "used to separate and restrict the movement of well persons who may have been exposed to a communicable disease to see if they become ill."

The TDCJ site states that 22 Telford inmates are currently in "medical isolation" which the site states is "for people who are sick and contagious. Isolation is used to separate ill persons who have a communicable disease from those who are healthy."

The site also lists the number of prison employees and prison contractors who have tested positively for the virus statewide but does not break the numbers down by individual unit. Telford is listed among the units with at least one employee who has tested positively for COVID-19.
