Man, juvenile arrested for allegedly attempting to take money from ATM

TEXARKANA, Ark. - A 20-year-old man and a juvenile have been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal money from an ATM.

Treveyon Darwin, 20, and a 16-year-old juvenile, both of Houston, were arrested early Friday on charges of theft over $25,000, theft of property over $5,000, attempted theft over $5,000 and engaging in criminal gang organizations, according to a news release from the Texarkana, Arkansas, Police Department.

TAPD officers responded to an ATM alarm call at 4:52 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Boulevard branch of Red River Credit Union, according to the release.

Officer Michael Bryan observed a truck chained to the ATM and two males attempting to open money canisters of the ATM. The suspects then fled on foot. Officer Bryan and Officer Robert Derrick chased the suspect into a residential neighborhood where they were found hiding in a shed and apprehended.

The suspects were using a vehicle that had been stolen from Forest Bend Lane.

Money taken from the ATM was recovered.

The investigation has resulted in police believing the suspects have been involved with a larger criminal investigation that has burglarized other ATMs in Texarkana.

The juvenile could be charged as an adult, according to police.
