At a humble hamburger restaurant 70 years ago in Corpus Christi, Texas, the first Whataburger sandwich was served.

Since then, the establishment has spread, serving this brand of burger to fans all over.

Associated with Texas, though the brand ownership no longer is based in the Lone Star State, Whataburger, according to Vincent Eason, manager of the State Line Avenue, Texarkana, Texas, location, earns its name.

"It tastes so good, that's what our customers say, 'What a burger!,'" he said. "Each Whataburger burger is made to the customers specifications. We make sure you get the burger you want. There's a thousand ways you can order one."

The promotion has just begun. According to the company's website, it goes through Sunday.

A customer who puts in an order online or through the Whataburger app can buy a sandwich and get one for free.

According to the company's history, Herman Dawson, the founder of Whataburger, was a pilot. The reason the company has its brightly colored orange and white stripes pattern was because Dawson wanted to be able to easily spot the restaurant from the air.

The promotion aside, Whataburger continues to just do what it is doing,

"This is what we do every day," said Eason. "Whataburger hasn't changed. We still make them the way Herman Dawson made them when he got this going in 1950. Tradition. If it is working, no need to change a good thing. So, no matter where you go, look for the orange and white stripes. That's how you know Whataburger is nearby."

Whataburger Texarkana has two locations, New Boston Road on the Texas side and North State Line on the Arkansas side.
