TEXARKANA, Texas - With 2020 offering a year of mixed happenings, local post-Christmas bargain shopping seemed to also show a mixed flavor Saturday, according to local retailers.

Jordan Chaffie, manager of the Couture Closet at Central Mall, said it was hard to gauge how busy Dec. 26 really was.

"At best, I could say it may have been about the same as this time last year," she said. "Most of our discount merchandise wound up being jewelry, handbags, sweaters and dresses."

At Maurices, another clothing outlet, First Assistant Manager Kyrin Dill said bargain shopping seemed slower this year.

"We opened at 11 a.m., and during the first five hours, we had 36 sales transactions," she said.

Dill said discounts this year ranged from 30% to 50% when it came to merchandise like jeans and footwear, and 50% to 60% when it came to shirt tops.

At other retail sales outlets at Central Mall, post-Christmas discount prices seemed to hover in the 40% to 50% range.

At Perfume Boutique, customer traffic was fairly average when it came to searching for discounts, said Store Manager Patricia White.

"A lot of people came in to use their gift cards, which were activated today," she said.

At Torrid, a clothing outlet, Sales Manager Fulisha James said the Dec. 26 sales patterns didn't seem much different then any other weekend.

"This time, we seemed to have more people interested in exchanging items, rather than searching for discounts," she said.

However, at American Eagle Outfitters, Store Manager Dillon Carlton said there seemed to be steady business throughout the day, most of it involving gift exchanges.'

Store Manager Danielle Schultz at The Buckle, a blue jean specialty store, said her store also experienced a high volume of gift exchanges.

"A lot of people had their gift cards with them," she said.
