Texarkana man charged with rape after alleged sexual misconduct with 6-year-old boy

TEXARKANA, Ark. - A 50-year-old Texarkana, Arkansas, man has been charged with rape for alleged sexual misconduct with a 6-year-old boy.

Everett James Miller is distantly related to the boy by marriage, according to a probable cause affidavit. The boy allegedly made an outcry of abuse to his father on Christmas Eve. The boy had allegedly spent the night of Dec. 23 at Miller's home and was picked up by his father the following day.

The boy reportedly told a forensic interviewer at the Texarkana Children's Advocacy Center that Miller, known to him as "G-Daddy," sexually assaulted him after Miller's wife left for work. The boy allegedly claimed that Miller told him to "keep what happened a secret" but he told his father anyway.

When asked to meet with investigators in early January, Miller allegedly declined to cite advice provided by his lawyer, Joe Tyler of Texarkana. Tyler allegedly contacted investigators on Miller's behalf and confirmed that he advised Miller not to give a statement.

Miller was arrested Feb. 7 by members of the Miller County Sheriff's Office. He is currently free on a $100,000 bond. Miller is scheduled to appear for a status hearing in Miller County circuit court this week.

Rape is typically punishable in Arkansas by 10 to 40 years or life. However, if the alleged victim is under 14, the minimum punishment increases to 25 years. As a condition of his bond, Miller is prohibited from having any contact with the boy.
