A solar array is under construction in the Texarkana area. Produced via a partnership of Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative and Today's Power, this array will help ease electrical costs during peak use periods, according to Jennah Denney, Today's Power marketing and public relations co-ordinator.

The array is off Springer Road in Texarkana, Arkansas.

"You can see it from Highway 49," Denney said.

Engineers with Today's Powers designed the array. Southwest Arkansas Electric Co-operative is handling the construction. Once completed, the system - 3,800 solar panels - will take up 8 acres.

"This system will generate, after conversion from DC to AC, one megawatt unit of usable electricity," she said.

The main function of the array is demand mitigation. In June through September, co-op members will potentially enjoy savings in electricity use thanks to the array's electrical production.

The array should be operational by the beginning of April.
