Texarkana gets new veterans clinic

TEXARKANA, Texas -  A new Veterans Administration Clinic is slated to be built in Texarkana, Texas.

The Community Outpatient Clinic will be situated at the northwest corner of Summerhill Road and Moores Lane and is projected to open in the spring of 2022 - with the groundbreaking taking place around June of this year.

The 21,000 square-foot building will have almost twice as much space as the current 11,000 square-foot VA clinic in the 900 block of Realtor Road in Texarkana, Ark. It opened in late 2003.

Besides the added space, the building will have 27 patient rooms for primary care as well for women's health care, said Shannon Arledge, with the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport.

Along with primary care, the new clinic will provide mental health services, audiology services, an optometry shop, lab services, basic (X-ray) radiology and physical therapy.

Once the new clinic opens the Arkansas-side clinic will shut down.
