County asking for public's input on hospital design

DE QUEEN, Ark.-The Sevier County Hospital Board of Directors is seeking community input on the design for the New Sevier County Hospital.

"They (the board) have met with doctors and nurse practitioners and got their input. They want to open it up for public comment and then discuss the input," said Sevier County Judge Greg Ray.

Since 84% of Sevier County voters approved the sales tax to support the hospital, project leaders and board members have felt compelled to see helpful comments from the community. Ray said.

Local residents can look at the proposed floor plan and feel free to email any comments that will be helpful in the overall design of the layout of the hospital.

There is a photo of the proposed floor plan at kdqn.net. The board is looking for helpful and thoughtful comments regarding the layout of the hospital and all submissions must be turned in by Friday.

Comments can be emailed to: [email protected]

The word comments should be in the subject matter.

Residents should also include their name and address in the body of the email. Only verified comments will be accepted.

The hospital will be located on 18 acres on U.S. Highway 71 North near Lee Lane. Ray said the site is wooded right now and the board is considering how to make the campus attractive for patients and visitors.

The hospital will open as a 12 bed acute care unit with future plans to become a critical care facility. The contractor is expected to begin dirt work in May and the emergency room should be completed by summer 2021.

When operational, the hospital should employ 105 medical professionals and staff.
