TEXARKANA, Texas - A ceremony Tuesday will celebrate the coming renovation of the Hotel Grim by lighting the iconic sign on its rooftop.

The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 21 in front of the Perot Theatre, 221 Main St. A reception will follow at Pecan Point Gastropub and Brewery next door.

"With the revitalization work underway, we are celebrating this milestone by relighting the Hotel Grim rooftop sign. The development team, elected officials and stakeholders will be on hand for the event. Members of the public are encouraged to attend to help celebrate this historic occasion," said David Orr, city director of planning and community development.

Project contractor Cohen-Esrey Development Group "is thrilled to be revitalizing this piece of Texarkana's history and look forward to seeing its true beauty restored," said Brandi Sachse, director of asset management.

The project is expected to be completed in spring 2021, converting the abandoned hotel into more than 90 apartments.
