Massage parlor employee charged with possession of ketamine allegedly found during a search in 2018

TEXARKANA, Texas - A man charged with possession of ketamine during a search of a local massage parlor in September 2018 has been formally indicted by a Bowie County grand jury.

Wanyang Lan, 28, was allegedly behind the counter when members of the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department's Special Operations Unit executed a search Sept. 12, 2018, of the business in the 3200 block of Kennedy Lane, according to a probable cause affidavit. During the search, officers found a vile of liquid ketamine in a room with the number 2 on the door.

Ketamine is commonly used in veterinary medicine and is used in the treatment of severe depression in clinical settings.

Lan was read his Miranda rights in English and in Mandarin with the help of a translator app. Lan allegedly told the officers he is the only person who uses the room where the drugs were discovered and Lan possessed keys to the business.

Lan was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, ketamine, over four but less than 200 grams. The offense is punishable by two to 20 years in prison. In the absence of prior criminal history, Lan could receive a term of probation.

Lan is currently free on a $10,000 bond. Court records show Lan is represented by Texarkana lawyer Josh Potter.

The case is assigned to 202nd District Judge John Tidwell. A date for Lan to appear for arraignment on the charge has not been scheduled.
