Coronavirus cases, deaths jump in region

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Miller County, Arkansas, leapt by almost 100 over the weekend, an increase mostly attributable to a testing push in the county jail, while the Bowie County death toll increased by four.

Miller County's case count rose from 126 to 220 from Friday to Monday, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.

Sevier County in Southwest Arkansas saw an increase of 17 cases, from 726 to 743. Howard County's tally increased from 98 to 101, Hempstead County's from 57 to 63 and Pike County's from nine to 10.

Lafayette County held at 21 cases, Little River County at 40 and Nevada County at 104.

Bowie County, Texas, reported a rise of 21 cases, from 301 to 322, with 119 recoveries and 26 COVID-19 related deaths, up from 22 on Friday, according to the local emergency Joint Operations Center.

Cass County, Texas, reported 57 cases with 39 recoveries and three deaths, according to the JOC.

Elsewhere in Northeast Texas, Morris County's count increased from 41 to 43, Red River County's from 115 to 117 and Titus County's from 732 to 742, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Caddo Parish in Northwest Louisiana added 142 cases from Friday to Monday, for a total of 3,740, and Bossier Parish added 59 cases to reach 1,030, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Statewide, Arkansas reported 23,814 cumulative cases with 267 deaths, Louisiana reported 66,327 cases with 3,188 deaths, and Texas reported 200,557 cases with 2,655 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 2,886,267 total cases so far in the U.S., with a national death toll of 129,811.
