Lifeshare Blood Center announced their "Independence Day Weekend United We Give" blood drive brought in nearly 1,500 donors.

The total was up 62% from last year's campaign, according to a press release.

The three-day event, which ended on July 4, was conducted in multiple cities across the region, including Texarkana.

This blood drive was especially important because Lifeshare's supply had been depleted by 80% in May.

"We want to thank everyone who came out and donated. When it comes to blood, every unit counts because every unit is another life saved or sustained," said Benjamin Prijatel, Senior Director of Blood Operations for LifeShare. "In fact, most of the donations collected during United We Give have already been distributed to local hospitals, and many have been transfused."

Donors received a coupon for their time and efforts which included a box combo coupon from Raising Cane's as well as a code for free home delivery from Waitr until July 31.

"We are happy and thrilled with donor generosity," said Dean Turcol, media relations director for Waitr. "We are in difficult times and the blood supply is down. Good to see the community come together to help out. Their support is critical. Waitr is part of the community they serve and we had our part to play. Thanks to all who donated, we are thrilled with the results."
