Board of Directors approves purchase of band instruments

In a Board of Directors meeting Tuesday night, The Texarkana Arkansas School District approved bids to purchase approximately $32,723.03 worth of band instruments for Arkansas High and North Heights Junior High schools.

With a recommendation from the administration, a motion by secretary Chrystal Marlar and a second by vice president Frank Coleman, the Board voted to accept the bid for the purchase of $12,686.25 worth of instruments and supplies for Arkansas High School from The Band House of Texarkana, funded by the $14.7 magnet grant they received in 2017.

Also funded by this grant was the acceptance of a bid to purchase $20,036.78 worth of instruments and supplies for North Heights Junior High School from Cooper Band Instrument Repair Inc., after a recommendation by the administration, a motion by Zone 3 representative Jesse Buchanan and another second by Coleman.

In other news from the meeting, there were several personnel changes.

On recommendation of the administration, a motion by Place 7 representative Larry Manley and a second by Marlar, the board approved personnel changes regarding employment, terminations, resignations, retirements, transfers and reassignments for 45 individuals.

Employment contingent on passing a background check was approved for six licensed teachers/assistants, one security guard and three employees receiving stipends.

There were four stipend employee resignations, two retirements, 10 resignations, one decline of employment for licensed and classified personnel and one termination.

There were also 12 transfers and five status changes for licensed personnel.
