Tax rates, capital improvement projects on agenda at Monday TC Board meeting

Texarkana College is to take action regarding tax rates and capital improvement projects in Monday's Board of Trustees meeting.

The agenda for the July 27 meeting previews the acknowledgement of topics including the recommendation of adding additional items to their capital improvement plans, maintaining and approving tax rates by setting a hearing date and updates from TC President Jason Smith.

TC is looking to upgrade certain issues to meet their top priorities for the 2018-2020 Strategic Plan of enhancing, upgrading and renovating facilities to meet state and federal ADA compliance standards and modernize instructional space.

The college has multiple maintenance issues and facilities that require updates. With the first phase of the STEM remodel from the multi-phase capital improvement plan, approved in 2018, nearly complete and coming in under budget, the recommendation is to add items to the plan that can be completed as time and budget allows.

Administration recommends approving the 2020-21 Campus Improvement Plan and updating the corresponding budget.

The Board is also looking to set a public hearing date on Monday, Aug. 17, to adopt the same tax rate as their current one: $.123081.

Even though it is the same rate, the tax code requires them to hold a public hearing on the proposed tax rate.

Afterward, President  Smith will give a update to the Board on a subject unavailable at presstime.
