TEXARKANA, Ark. - Ward 6 Director Terri Peavy announced Tuesday she will seek re-election in November.

Peavy is completing her first term after winning the seat, previously held by longtime Board of Directors member Sue Johnson, in 2016. In her announcement, she pointed to past accomplishments and future plans.

"I have learned a lot since being elected in November 2016 and I have seen progress being made. I have worked with our city staff to continue upgrading and repairing our streets. I have worked with city staff to find a reasonable way to remodel the old Boys and Girls Club to a more multi-purpose building, and I was pleased to hear us announce a new animal shelter to be built.

"As the coronavirus continues to wreak havoc with people and our economy, I have supported our cities' efforts to battle this terrible disease that has been thrust upon us. The upcoming months will not be easy, but with prayer and working together I believe we will be able to prevail. If re-elected I will continue to work for the citizens in my ward and for the betterment of our city," she stated.

To appear on the ballot, candidates for the Ward 6 seat, as well as for Ward 1 and Ward 2, must by noon Aug. 14 submit a filing statement and a petition of nomination to the city clerk. The petition must be signed by at least 50 people registered to vote within the city limits. Candidates also must file a statement of financial interest.

Election Day is Nov. 3.
