Cass County reports fifth COVID-19 death | National death toll tops 150,000

Five people have died of COVID-19 in Cass County, Texas, an increase of one since Wednesday, the local emergency Joint Operations Center reported Thursday.

The cumulative number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the county also rose by one, from 141 to 142. Sixty-eight Cass County patients have recovered, and there are 69 active cases in the county.

Bowie County, Texas' case count rose from 601 to 609, with 262 recoveries, 37 deaths and 310 active cases, according to the JOC.

Elsewhere in Northeast Texas, Morris County's tally ticked up from 84 to 85, and Titus County's increased from 1,123 to 1,141, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Red River County's count held at 133 cases.

In Southwest Arkansas, Miller County added four cases to reach 442, with 373 recoveries, four deaths and 65 active cases, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.

Pike County's count rose from 65 to 69, Little River County's from 138 to 145, Hempstead County's from 190 to 192, Howard County's from 282 to 287 and Sevier County's from 918 to 927. Lafayette County held at 48 cases and Nevada County at 128.

Caddo Parish in Northwest Louisiana added 74 cases for a total of 6,007, and Bossier Parish added 39 cases to reach 2,017, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Statewide, Arkansas reported 41,759 cases with 442 deaths. Louisiana reported 114,481 cases with 3,811 deaths, and Texas reported 412,107 cases with 6,274 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 4,405,932 total cases so far in the U.S., with a national death toll of 150,283, an increase of more than 1,400 in a day.
