Texarkana - Go to 4201 N. State Line Ave., and you will find a modest looking little Mexican restaurant kind of nestled in among other businesses. Inside, you will find a small, comfortable dining room, and a server who brings the customary chips and salsa as one usually gets in such eateries. When the food comes, there is a difference. Local. Fresh. Family. That's what one gets at Los Ruvalcaba.

The Ruvalcaba family has been operating on State Line location for about five years. They recently opened their new outlet at Central Mall food court, across from Chick-fil-A. The restaurants are family operated and found their niche serving up family recipes.

"It is mostly my mother's recipes," said Edgar Ruvalcaba, manager of the Central Mall location. "Though there's also some from dad, some of my sisters, a little of everyone in the family, really."

Ruvalcaba, who has been with the family business since the beginning, stirs a pot of white queso dip, being a manager who is hands-on.

"We set up the second location because the time was right, and besides, in my family, we like to work," he said. "We want everyone to have a chance to try my mother's recipes."

During the pandemic shutdown, hard work is what got the family and the restaurant, through, he said. They do not have a drive-through window at the State Line location, but they did manage to serve customers curbside and by delivery.

"We've been doing this since we started out of a taco truck, serving soccer players at Beverly Park," he said. "We want everyone to try a good taste of Mexico."
