Harvest Regional Food Bank offers free summer lunches for area children, teens

Harvest Regional Food Bank is partnering with Life House Church in Texarkana, Arkansas, to provide free summer lunches for local youth.

The grab-and-go lunches will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 7, said Camille Wrinkle, executive director of Harvest Regional Food Bank.

Life House Church is located at 915 East St. in Texarkana, Arkansas.

The lunches are for any child or teen 18 and under who has a need, Wrinkle said.

"It is to help replace meals they usually get at school. A lot of kids get the majority of their nutrition from breakfast and lunches provided at school," Wrinkle said.

The lunches will also be available to Nevada County, Arkansas, children and teens at the Prescott Public Library.

Last year, Harvest distributed 3.2 million meals and served more than 60,000 individuals in Southwest Arkansas and Northeast Texas.

Both states consistently rank in the top 10 for the highest incidence of hunger.

Nearly 205 local residents miss meals because of food insecurity, including one in four children. Harvest works to eliminate hunger through its Food Banking, Food Rescue, School Backpack, and Mobile Pantry programs.

Volunteers are always needed.
