Kyle B. Barrett, who lost the Bowie County Precinct 3 Commissioner's race by a 30-vote margin early Wednesday, is requesting a vote recount.

James Strain defeated Kyle B. Barrett 1,626 to 1,596 in the GOP race for Precinct 3 commissioner, according to results.

"The Secretary of State's office has been contacted and we have some pretty in-depth issues and problems," Barrett said Wednesday afternoon.

He declined to elaborate.

Barrett's campaign has contacted the county's Republican Party Chairman Gary Singleton, which is the first step in the recount process.

Singleton told the Gazette said he had contacted the Secretary of State's office, which was going to provide information on how to conduct a recount.

"We will go through the process that needs to take place," he said.

Strain, the incumbent who won the election, could not be immediately reached for comment about the recount Barrett has requested.

Kyle Barrett's father is Dale Barrett, a former Precinct 3 Bowie County commissioner.
