TEXARKANA, Ark. - Arkansas-side residents age 65 and older can pick up coronavirus care packages at City Hall beginning today.

The city is providing the relief "to alleviate the fear of not being able to acquire items from the stores as people are rushing to buy them out," according to a statement.

A fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at City Hall, 216 Walnut St. Those making donations to the care package effort will receive a free hot dog lunch.

Seniors who want a care package must bring proof of residency such as a driver license or utility bill.

They are instructed to drive into the alley behind City Hall and call 870-779-4971 or 870-779-4977. Someone will bring a care package out.

Only one care package is available per househould, while supplies last.
