Texas high court orders online voting for elections of state legal associations

AUSTIN - The Texas Supreme Court issued an emergency order Sunday regarding the elections for president and board members of the Texas State Bar and Texas Young Lawyers Association.

Licensed attorneys who vote in these elections must now do so online "because of uncertainty regarding the feasibility of handling paper ballots during the COVID-19 pandemic," the order states.

The order also extends the voting deadline to 5 p.m. May 29 for presidents-elect and directors of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Young Lawyers Association.

The Texas Office of Court Administration is gathering the names and contact information of attorneys who are willing or interested in serving as appointed counsel in cases involving quarantine orders under the Health and Safety Code. Any Texas-licensed attorney who wishes to add their name should visit the OCA or Texas State Bar website for access to a relevant form.
