UPDATED | Bowie County coronavirus cases rise more than 20 in a day; Jump attributed to state adding Telford Unit cases to count

Bowie County, Texas' number of confirmed coronavirus cases increased by more than 20 from Monday to Tuesday, rising from 115 to 137, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The jump is attributable to the state deciding Friday to add cases in prisons to its official count, according to a spokesperson from the local emergency Joint Operations Center. The Barry Telford Unit of the state prison system is New Boston, Texas.

Three other Northeast Texas counties saw case count increases, as well. Titus County went from 102 to 129, Morris County from 11 to 13, and Red River County from 35 to 36. Cass County held at 24 cases.

In Southwest Arkansas, Sevier County's case count rose by 18, from 28 to 46, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.

Miller County held at 42 cases, Howard County at 14, Hempstead and Lafayette counties at nine, Pike County at three, Nevada County at four, and Little River County at one.

Caddo Parish in Northwest Louisiana added 14 cases to reach 1,912, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. Bossier Parish's count rose from 346 to 348.

Statewide, Arkansas reported 4,813 total cases so far, with 100 deaths. Louisiana reported 35,038 cases with 2,458 deaths, and Texas reported 49,912 cases with 1,369 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's U.S. case total exceeded 1.5 million for the first time Thursday, reaching 1,504,830. The national death toll passed 90,000 for the first time, reaching 90,340.
