TEXARKANA, Ark. - The Texarkana Regional Airport Board's Personnel Committee recently met to discuss potentially creating a new management position for the Airport.

Committee members are looking at hiring a full-time airport property development and marketing program manager.

The job would involve managing airport property by helping prepare boundary maps to update Federal Aviation Administration airport layout plans, negotiate and prepare agreements for land purchasing, and overseeing revenue generating activities at the airport - including contracts, leases and agreements, as well as recruiting businesses interested in leasing property, according to airport records.

The new job would also involve managing advertising and marketing through social media, along with providing website information about the airport. The manager would also perform public relations duties for the airport to draw more local commercial-passenger traffic.

Some of the specific examples involving the job would include: handling lease agreements and contracts as well as tracking insurance requirements for tenants and monitoring tenant compliance to contract provisions and meeting minimum airport standards. This would include conducting property site visits.

Additional responsibilities include mintaining property-related files, archive files and general records, as well as preparing clear and accurate reports.

The committee is looking at proposing this new position to the full board possibly at its next meeting Thursday.

If approved, airport officials plan to advertise the job opening later this month and start accepting applications next month.

Airport Executive Director Paul Mehrlich said the airport is interested only in leasing property - not selling any. He added that there is also some airport-0wned property that will need to possibly be cleared of old military buildings and structure, before the land could be used for leasing.

The long-term goal for property leasing of airport land will be financial self-sufficiency, officials said.
