TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove Independent School District named Natalie Reeves the principal of newly-opened Margaret Fischer Davis Elementary School during a special board meeting Thursday afternoon.
Reeves, who was previously the assistant principal at Pleasant Grove Elementary, will replace Chad Blain.
Reeves said she is overjoyed by the promotion.
"It's a great opportunity to start new beginnings with a new campus," Reeves said. "I'm just ecstatic."
Reeves's new role will take effect immediately. She expects a smooth transition.
"I've been on that campus for what is now year five, so just really understanding the dynamics of it and where we have areas to grow and build." she said.
Reeves has been with the district for eight years. During her time in education and at the Pleasant Grove Independent School District, Reeves has held teaching, intervention and leadership roles at the elementary and intermediate levels.
She attended the University of Arkansas, where she earned her bachelor of science in elementary education. Reeves went on to complete a master of science in curriculum and instruction, as well as her certification in administration from Texas A&M-Texarkana.
Superintendent Chad Pirtle said after going through the process of reviewing applications and interviewing candidates with a search committee, it became clear Reeves was the best choice.
"Natalie Reeves was the overwhelming recommendation from the committee," Pirtle said. "She's been on the campus and she's been a great leader for that campus. I have no doubt in my mind that she will make Margaret Fischer Davis Elementary School the best elementary school in the state of Texas."
