TEXARKANA, Texas — Bowie County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in Liberty-Eylau.

Deputies responded at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday to a possible accidental shooting at a residence in the 600 block of Warren Thomas Road, said Chief Deputy Jeff Neal.

Officers found Roland Toney, 11, with a fatal gunshot wound, Neal said.

The deputies were told the victim was holding a gun that belonged to his older sibling.

The sibling alleged attempted to take the firearm from the victim when it discharged, striking the victim. The child's body has been sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences at Dallas for autopsy.

The death investigation is ongoing, Neal said.
