For the last several weeks, most of the renovation work on the Grim Hotel has taken place on upper floors. Most of the windows are in place and new red tiles are starting to cover the roof.

There is still much to do and the project is still many months away for completion.

But this week, workers started removing old broken glass from metal frames around the grand entrances on State Line Avenue. In these photos, workers remove glass shards after pieces of the panes are removed, and clean out the channels where the glass sits.

There are three arches built into the stone facade on this side of the building, oriented to the the south end of the wall. Two large flag poles angle upward from above and between the arches.

In the olden days (think back 80 or 90 years) this would have been a prominent point for people to pass as they promenaded into downtown. As they say in the South, it's fixin' to be that way again.
