REDWATER, Texas - Texarkana, Texas, Mayor Bob Bruggeman visited Redwater Elementary School's campus Monday afternoon to teach students the importance of voting, as well as explain the role of public officials and how they are elected.

Kelly Burns, Superintendent of Redwater Independent School District, said Bruggeman also read the story "Vote!" to the students, to emphasis the point of citizens making their voices heard.

"I think it was very nice for the students to hear from someone who has ran for office before," Burns said. "They asked him some very good questions about his office and the process. He did a wonderful job with the kids."

Burns said she hopes students take Bruggeman's message and apply it in their lives.

"I hope they take forward the importance of voting as a civic duty and knowing that everyone's voice matters," Burns said.

On a Facebook post from Redwater Independent School District, the elementary school thanked Bruggeman and called it a wonderful learning experience.
