Request for special permit is withdrawn in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Texas - A request for a special permit for a proposed arcade was pulled from the agenda of the Atlanta Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday.

"The applicant's attorney pulled their special use permit request. They decided it was in their best interest to review their options and maybe look at another location," Atlanta City Manager David Cockrell said.

The announcement was made just minutes before the Planning and Zoning Commission was to meet Tuesday for a public hearing on the issue, Cockrell said.

Moiz Budhwani has submitted an application for a permit that would allow Arcade Sweepstakes Music Download to be located at 110 W. Hiram St., according to the public hearing notice.

Cockrell said previously that the city would be recommending the commission not approve the permit, primarily because of inadequate parking at the location.

He described the location as a "very small strip center," that would not be able to handle the amount of parking an arcade would need.

Tuesday's public hearing had been advertised in the newspaper and letters had been set to businesses within 100 feet of the proposed arcade. All of the feedback the city received was negative, Cockrell said.
