TEXARKANA, Ark. - Work continues on an addition to the local animal shelter.
According to shelter officials, the new space at Texarkana Animal Care and Adoption Center should be complete by May. The new building will include new floor space for the animals and allow them to house animals for a longer period of time, giving them more opportunity to be adopted.
It will also have a sitting area to permit visitors to interact with the animals as well as a drive-through to allow animal control officers to drop off
animals.
"This is exciting," said Brenda Williamson, kennel tech supervisor. "We are very much looking forward to the new facilities. A greater capacity to hold more animals gives us more options in our work - especially finding them new homes. That is definitely the most important part of the job."
The plans is for the older floor space to become a holding area for the quarantined animals and for those with special needs.
Construction has been underway for about two months.
