Three districts confirm student, staff COVID-19 cases over weekend

Liberty-Eylau and Maud Independent School Districts, as well as the Texarkana Arkansas School District, all confirmed COVID-19 cases within their districts over the weekend.

L-EISD and TASD reported student cases, while MISD confirmed a staff member tested positive.

TASD

TASD was notified Sunday, Sept. 13 that a student at College Hill Sixth Grade Academy and a student at Arkansas High School tested positive for COVID-19.

The students were last on on campus Friday, Sept. 11, 2020.

Classroom, physical education and cafeteria seating charts were maintained to determine individuals who may be considered close contacts in the event of a positive COVID-19 case.

According to the district, individuals determined to be in close contacts will receive phone calls or e-mails from the TASD Point of Contact, as well as the Arkansas Department of Health.

The following was stated in a Facebook post from TASD's page:

"Per our established protocol, we will thoroughly disinfect all areas of the building that the individual used in the past couple of days. We are also in contact with the Arkansas Department of Health and will take the steps necessary to protect the health of our students and staff."

The students who has tested positive for COVID-19 will not return to school for at least 10 days.

L-EISD

L-EISD was notified on Sept. 11 that a high school student who was test-confirmed to have COVID-19 was last present on the Liberty-Eylau High School campus on Aug. 31.

Due to privacy requirements, they did not release the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her.

"The student has been home since Aug. 31, therefore no LEHS students or staff members were exposed," Superintendent Ronnie Thompson stated in a notification letter sent to all L-EISD families. "However, TEA regulations require the district to send notification regardless of when the infected person was last on campus."

MISD

Maud ISD notified all student families on Sept. 11 that a secondary school staff member was lab-confirmed to have COVID-19.

The staff member was last present on campus on Sept. 10, according to a letter sent out by Superintendent Chris Bradshaw.

The district contacted local health officials to conduct contact tracing at school, and they contacted anyone determined to be in close contact with the infected individual. Any students or staff members considered to be at high risk of exposure were directly notified.

"All areas that the individual came into contact with were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before any students or staff were allowed to access the area," Bradshaw said. "While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, we ask that you, as always, watch for symptoms of COVID-19."
