TASD Board OKs purchase of learning services

The Texarkana Arkansas School District approved the purchase of more than $36,000 in services from Lead Your School, as well as a lease agreement with the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department in a called meeting of the Board of Trustees on Monday night.

The Board approved $36,162 for the purchase of services from Lead Your School, a company that provides staff training and materials for educators. Training is provided by Mike Laird and Sean Cain, authors of the book "The Fundamental Five: The Formula for Quality Instruction."

Funding will come from the district's magnet grant.

Also approved by the Board was a joint lease agreement between the district and the Police Department to use vacant classrooms at Union Elementary School for city activities.

"They've been using part of the building already, but this is an actual agreement for the next two years," Superintendent Dr. Becky Kesler said. "Basically, it's a trading of services. They're going to provide services for alarm calls, training, opening the safe houses and paying some of the utilities over at Union. We are all in agreement that this is very good for both us and the city."

TAPD will pay $625 a month for utilities.
