TEXARKANA, Ark. - Miller County County Democrats opened their campaign headquarters on a gray, rainy Tuesday. Despite the gloomy weather outside, the officials, volunteers and candidates were in good spirits inside, as they made official their focus to begin the their work on behalf of area candidates and their party.

"William Hanson is the Democratic candidate for the 4th District of Arkansas," said Chairman Rick Hall. "He came to us early on. I met him last year. We offered our help. Miller County used to be a strong Democratic area. I think there is a chance there would be lots of support for him."

Hall says that the current pandemic has made political campaigning more challenging. Hanson, for example, has focused more efforts on social media, with videos for viewing. They can be seen at williamhansonforcongress.com.

"We are deploying the Voter Access Network," Hall said. "We will be doing phone bank work as well as social media, with the lion's share of the work coming out of this office."

Besides campaign work for William Hanson, Hall also says the Miller County Democrats will be handling local campaigning for the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris presidential ticket.

"We have promotional items such as campaign signs available," Hall said.

The Millar County Democrats are working out of Bethel Hall, formerly Bethel Church. The church has historically focused on social progress and change. Miller County Democrats see that mission as worth continuing.

A few local candidates paid their respects opening day. Vickie Lacy, running for the city director position for Ward 2, chatted with other visitors. Also, candidates from across the state line in Bowie County dropped in, including Armani Valentino, campaigning for Bowie County Judge, and Brenda Davis, who is running for Texas State Board of Education, District 9.

(The office is open Monday through Saturday at 403 E. 9th St. Telephone: 903-277-7417.)
