NEW BOSTON, Texas - Getting grant money for law enforcement, courthouse security and the upcoming election will be among items discussed at the Bowie County Commissioners Court meeting at 9 a.m. today.
Commissioners, who will meet inside their gathering room on the Bowie County Courthouse's second floor, will consider approving hazard pay for Bowie County Sheriff's Office deputies as well as courthouse security personnel. The money will be supplied through the Coronavirus Relief Fund and Security Act (CARES Act).
Besides law enforcement and security personnel, commissioners will also consider accepting and approving $62,095 in grant funds from the Center for Tech and Civic Life to help ensure health safety during the Nov. 3 general election. The money will be used to help plan and operate safe and secure elections administrating - particularly regarding safe practices needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19
In other business, the court will also consider and probably accept a state Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Continued Multi -Year Improvement Grant of $102,600 from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission.
The court further plans to issue a proclamation honoring retiring New Boston Mayor Johnny Branson for serving the city at least 25 years.
