Ace of an Easter egg hunt held at historic house site

TEXARKANA, Texas -Youngsters gleefully crisscrossed the Ace of Club House lawn early Saturday afternoon as they collected about 1,000 Easter eggs scattered across the historic home's expansive landscape.

Having had to forgo last year's hunt, the kids seemed eager for some outdoor exploration during the Ace of Club's Seventh Annual Easter Egg Hunt, located on Pine St. downtown. They scurried to clear the grounds of what were actually multi-colored egg shell-shaped containers filled with candy and kiddie prizes.

"The local Lone Star Daughters of the American Revolution actually prepares these eggs each year for us," said Velvet Cool, Texarkana Museum Systems board president.

For the children's parents, at least 50 of the eggs contained a dinner gift card from the Texas Road House restaurant.

"This really gives you a feeling of celebration in the beautiful spring of the year," said Jason Carter, a TMS board members.

TMS Curator Jamie Simmons said many of the hunted egg casings were gold colored in celebration of TMS's Golden 50th Anniversary. She added that about the only thing different in this year's egg hunt was that, compared to years past, the hunt had to be postponed until Easter Sunday Eve, rather then holding it a week before Easter, as in years passed.

Local resident Brentlee Cole, age 10, became this year's overall egg collecting winner, garnering 194 eggs. Alli Cait Fincher, age 9, of Atlanta, Texas, picking up 193 eggs.

"We saw this egg hunt being advertised on Facebook" said Christina Fincher, her mom.
