TEXARKANA, Arkansas A record number of shooters turned up Saturday for Big Jake's BBQ Sporting Clays Tournament at Rocky Creek Outdoors USA.

More than 100 shooters from Dallas, Austin, Shreveport, Louisiana, and more took aim at 15,500 targets, competing to place in a pot worth $6500, split into several categories.

"Chad Johnston of Shreveport, Louisiana, was our top shooter for this event," said Lance Keen, range manager. "He took HOA, or High Over All."

Keen marveled at how far some of the shooters came to participate.

"This is the biggest monthly shooting tournament of its sort, as far as prize money goes," Keen said. "And this again was the largest turnout yet."

Looking forward, Keen expects even bigger things.

"We are getting ready to open up another course," he said. "This will double the events upon which shooters can score, making it an even bigger event. The new course will open up in May." The event is sponsored and catered by Big Jake's BBQ.
