BOWIE COUNTY, Texas — A Bowie County man is facing a child pornography possession charge in connection with a sexually graphic video of a 6-year-old girl allegedly found on his cellphone.
Shawn Michael Owen, 36, came to the attention of New Boston, Texas, police last month after they were contacted by the parents of a 6-year-old girl, according to a probable cause affidavit. The parents told investigators that a girlfriend of Owen contacted them and showed them the video after finding it on a phone Owen allegedly claimed no longer worked.
The video is just over eight minutes long and allegedly depicts the child nude while engaged in sexually explicit conduct. According to the affidavit, a man's voice can be heard in the video.
Owen has been charged with possession of child pornography. He faces two to 10 years if convicted.
He is currently being held in the Bowie County jail. Owen's bail on the pornography charge is set at $50,000. Bowie County court records show Owen is also facing a charge of possession of controlled substance and bail on that charge is set at $10,000.
