Pleasant Grove High School journalism students won 27 of the top awards in the Texas Association of Journalism Educators Best in Texas competition announced last weekend.
The journalism department received five Superior, 11 Excellent and 11 Honorable Mention awards for their print newspaper writing and design work.
In addition, two students received "Best of the Best" recognition. Cadence Pov and Gillian Knowles placed fourth in Objective Writing, and Cadence Pov placed second in Newspaper Design. Class 1A - 6A schools from Texas entered the competition.
Publications Adviser Charla Harris said she was especially proud of her students due to the stout competition they faced.
"I'm thrilled every time my students are recognized for their accomplishment because they work so hard to create publications that cover their school and our students," Harris said. "This was the first time we've entered this particular contest and I'm proud that they did so well, especially considering the amount and size of schools that compete in this contest."
