TEXARKANA — SWEPCO electricity customers in Southwest Arkansas and East Texas who lost power because of overnight storms may not see it restored until Sunday.

The estimated time that 95% of those customers will have power restored is 10 p.m. Sunday, according to a SWEPCO news release.

"Many customers' power will be restored sooner," the release states.

Severe storms late Friday and early Saturday caused extensive damage, including downed poles and lines, leaving about 19,300 SWEPCO customers in the dark.

By 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the number of customers without power had been reduced to about 9,500, including 1,500 in Louisiana, 4,700 in Arkansas and 3,400 in Texas.

"SWEPCO and contractor crews continue to assess damage and restore power as safely and quickly as possible," the release states.
