TEXARKANA, Ark. - A man who was allegedly in possession of a stolen firearm during a traffic stop in May in Miller County is facing state and federal charges.

Abdallah Imad Ali, 30, was arrested by Arkansas State Police on May 25 after a firearm reported stolen in Memphis, Tennessee, was found in his car during a traffic stop, according to court records. Ali has been charged in Miller County with felony theft of a firearm.

His bond in that case is set at $100,000.

Ali appeared with Texarkana lawyer Charles Friday earlier this week before Circuit Judge Wren Autrey. His case is set for trial in January. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jeffery Sams is representing the state.

If convicted, Ali faces three to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

Ali was indicted for illegal alien in possession of a firearm by a federal grand jury in the Texarkana Division of the Western District of Arkansas in July. The case was unsealed this week after Ali made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Bryant.

The government filed a motion asking that Ali be held in jail while his case proceeds, citing concern Ali is a flight risk. Assistant Federal Public Defender Alex Wynn waived the issue of detention.

The case is scheduled for jury selection in October before U.S. District Judge Susan Hickey.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Harris is representing the government.

Court records do not reflect Ali's nationality.
