Man accused of sexually assaulting 9-year-old girl in Bowie County | He faces a felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child

TEXARKANA, Texas - A man accused of sexual misconduct with a 9-year-old girl in 2015 is facing a felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child in Bowie County.

If convicted, Jose Alejandro Aguilera-Garcia, 39, faces five to 99 years or life in a Texas prison.

Aguilera-Garcia is a former boyfriend of an adult relative of the alleged victim's, according to a probable cause affidavit. The girl was approximately 9 when she woke at a relative's home to find Aguilera-Garcia touching her and touching himself. The girl allegedly reported that she "froze up" when she realized what was happening.

Aguilera-Garcia is currently free on a $100,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear for a status hearing in September before 202nd District Judge John Tidwell. Aguilera-Garcia is represented by the Bowie County Public Defender's Office.
