TEXARKANA, Ark. - Firefighters responded to a house fire early Thursday morning in the 800 block of Laurel Street but were unable to save the structure.
The small house was "fully involved" in flames when firefighters arrived at about 4 a.m., and they fought it "in defensive mode," to prevent the fire spreading to nearby buildings, Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department Fire Marshal Jim Wall said. Police and a LifeNet ambulance also responded.
TAFD personnel used a hose on an aerial ladder to pour water on the fire from above while other firefighters sprayed an outbuilding on the property to prevent it from igniting.
It is unclear whether the house was occupied or abandoned. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured during the incident.
It has been a busy week for local firefighters. Monday night, Texarkana Texas Fire Department battled a blaze at a vacant motel at West Seventh and Elm streets. Early Tuesday morning, TTFD fought a fire at the Quality Inn Hotel, 5403 N. State Line Ave. Both fires resulted in total losses that will require the buildings to be demolished.
